In October 1995 he performed the first autotransplantation of peripheral stem cells in an oncohaematological patient in Pisa.

In May 1997 he became head of the Transplantation Section of the Hematology Division of the Department of Oncology, Transplantation and new technologies in medicine.

Head of the Transplant Center of the U.O. Hematology of Pisa from 1997 to 2012 From 2012 to 2020 diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic hematologic diseases.
